Choosing cleaning products is a very important practice. Cleaning is part of daily activities and good judgment of which product to use is essential. With so many cleaning products available in the market today, it is very confusing to decide which one to use. And advertisements and promotional materials greatly affect our judgment. So, what are the factors to consider in choosing cleaning products?
Awareness of the materials to clean is necessary. After identifying the material to clean, we have to know which cleaning product to use. Different cleaning solutions are made to clean specific surfaces like woods, glass, tiles, fabrics, etc. We need to use the right cleaning product for specific surfaces to prevent causing damage to the item.
Some cleaning products claim to be multi-purpose. They can be used in cleaning plastic, wooden surfaces and even glasses. However, in choosing cleaning products, it is very basic to check the effectiveness of the solution. Examine how spotless a glass cleaner can clean your mirror compared with a multi-purpose cleaner. Cleaning products for specific purpose are very effective in cleaning particular items. Thus, choose the right cleaning products for a specific surface.
Prepare a small surface to test the effectiveness of the cleaning product. Observe if the product is effective in cleaning the item. It is advisable to make a trial application on a small surface only, in case the cleaning product is ineffective. This is a safety measure on damage control.
Cleaning products are used to maintain the good quality of materials we have over time. If using the cleaning product continuously tend to damage the item, then you would not wish to use the same product again. It is only by consistently using the cleaning product that you test its real effectiveness.
Personal safety should also be our concern in choosing cleaning products. Some cleaning products may contain harmful substances which can be detrimental to our health. There are solutions which can cause lung problem when inhaled or can burn your skin when spilled. We can minimize the use of such cleaning products or completely avoid whenever possible. Carefully consider the risks of using certain cleaning products.
It also helps to choose cleaning products which are environment-friendly. Substances which are organic, biodegradable or non-biodegradable are contained in all cleaning products. So we have to decide which one we prefer to use.
Choosing cleaning product is simple. Choose cleaning products that are effective and yet safe to use.

I feel that the majority of cleaning products out there are almost identical. I think it’s mostly about brand loyalty. I read somewhere that 95% of the time, children use the same cleaning products as their parents after growing up. Something about that familiar smell of the cleaning products your parents used while growing up is powerful branding.

The most diffucult products to get that are not too abrasive or harmful are for oven cleaning. I would urge caution when choosing.
