First there was CopyScape, now there is CopyGator (FREE)

What is CopyGator ?

This is a free service designed to monitor your RSS feed and find where your content has been republished in the blogosphere. We automatically notify you when a new post of yours is copied to another feed, we also build an overview page you can view to see how/when/where your content is being duplicated, quoted or plagiarized. This is an entirely free service and is powered by the feed spidering power of ://URLFAN.

By the way, there’s no connection between Copyscape and Copygator, that  I know of — apart from the obvious similarity of name.

And here’s a tip from me. Many times a marketer wont mind if his or her stuff is being reproduced elsewhere because, knowing that might happen, he’s included a link in the article — along with the unlinked domain name. That way, unauthorized content re-use still helps you.

Cheers,
Gary Harvey

Very cool. I’ve used copyscape quite a bit sadly. Nice to have another tool to help keep your content from being stolen.

This is my first time here and I really enjoyed your site, great work!

I am a bit skeptical about this being free, what if it is just a black hat tool to steal original content?

I have been using CopyGator and it’s very cool. I personally don’t mind some copying, but some blogs will actually scrape your entire site or several pages, this can have adverse effects on your won rankings.

Well I just added my feed to their data base and well see what it turns up. I still prefer copyscape and I wish someone would make a site 100% like that.

I really like the sound of this. I have just started internet marketing and use copyscape to ensure articles I have had written for me are unique content and not just copied from the web. On several occasions this has led me to parting company with bad content writers who try and do things quickly for them and badly for their employer!

Gary, Copygator isn’t as powerful as copyscape. Does it check content plagiarism directly? or just URL? Honestly, i still don’t see powerful options like Copyscape yet. I tried several when there was Copyscape outtage few months ago but sadly was not happy much with any.

Copygator sounds brilliant, I am going to give it a try. Gotta be worth a go for free.

I always add some links within my copy so I don’t mind too much if people steel it. I often get reviews written using mechanical turk and that is a time when I use copyscape as people often try to give you copied stuff.

Good to have this new option aside from copy-scape. Writers deserve to protect their intellectual property. I believe this tool can be a great help.
