I tried your remedy – no results. Removed Google Toolbar & reinstalled it. Worked for a while then the URL message came back again. Decided to forgo Google Toolbar all together.
No more problems.

extensions make the browser slow hence chrome is faster than the firefox but when chrome’s extensions are revealed that might be the end of chrome

One of the issue with firefox extensions is that anybody can develope them, while this is good in a way it can often lead to conficts between other bit of softwear and more likly in this case other Firefox extensions or even hardware drivers!

I find this most confusing! Why would FF extensions cause IE to stop working. It illogical captain!
