Should You Be Writing Articles?

Every webmaster knows that to gain ranking positions in search engines you need to build links. This usually means hours at a computer submitting your site to directories and emailing other webmasters requesting reciprocal links. There is another way of getting links which often overlooked and complements your current link building strategy, writing articles.

Content is the life blood of the Internet every webmaster needs it and every website needs fresh content to keep Google and the other Search engines coming back regularly. By writing articles you can provide this content and at the same time get yourself permanent back links to your website. This article will attempt to answer some common questions asked by first time article writers.

What should I be writing about?

Write about what you know and make it relevant to the content of your website this will ensure that the links back to your site are also relevant and enhance the links value in the search engines.

How do webmasters find my articles?

Once you have finished writing your article you add a resource box to it which contains links to your site. You then submit the article to article listing directories where they are placed in categories. Site owners can then copy them from the directories and use them. They must however keep your links intact

Won’t people just remove the links?

This does sometimes happen but it is often a genuine mistake. If you find one of your articles without live links a quick email to the site owner is usually all it takes to get the links restored. By using a unique pen name or a unique phrase in all your articles you’ll be able to trace them through Google much easier.

How many words should my articles contain?

There is no fixed length recommended. If you try to keep between 350 and 500 words you should be fine. Some people write much longer articles but I see this as a bit of a waste of time as a 2000 word article could easily be split into 4 500 word articles and give you 4 links back to your site.

What is the ideal number of submissions?

Views are divided on this some people say submit them to as many sites as possible while others think you should only submit unique articles to each site. If you don’t have a tool that will help you to create unique articles then I would suggest making each submission to an article site with a PageRank of 4 or above unique.

How many articles should I be writing?

The more you can write and distribute the better. It all depends on how comfortable you are with writing. This is my second article today while my wife has written 10. Set yourself a target to start with. For example try to write 1 article before your first coffee.

One Response to “Should You Be Writing Articles?”

  1. My reply to the title of this post would be: No.
The problem is, google can tell what is duplicate content… for example, do a search for somthing and somtimes you see ‘See more results’ because google knows their very similair and has not bothered to show you them.
So if you write an article, and submit and get accepted to 100 article sites… YES you may get 100 articles worth of links, but google knows their all identical and so completly devalues alot of the links (not completly makes them worthless, but worth alot less !)

So you have to change the article each time.

So you have time it takes to write the article, then time it takes to submit, then change the article, then resubmitt… all of this and you might get a few PR N/A sites worth of links.

Its better to spend you time on somthing worthwhile.
