The Benefits of Homeschooling Exposed
By Danise B. Keasda | July 19th, 2008We all know that educators feel very strongly that for a child to receive a quality education is the single most important aspect to their lives. More and more parents are beginning to take an active role in assisting in the education of their children. Many individuals, apart from licensed educators are starting to recognize an education of a child is crucial. This is why home schooling has become a popular educational choice!
Throughout this article, I will explain why receiving an education at home is important as well as the many benefits associated with this trend. Education received in the home is considered to be extremely beneficial in that all members of the family take a productive, active role in developing the skills and knowledge of the child and/or children in the home. As a home school parent of two, I have had firsthand experience in witnessing these benefits.
The first benefit to educating children in this manner is that it strengthens the bond between all of the family members that are involved. While most families are often separated and going different directions due to responsibilities both inside and outside of the home, however, when a family begins to educate their children at home, the focus suddenly shifts to the education.
In the homeschool family, it is common to see that the attention is placed on the education of the child, or children in the home. Schedules put the educational and moral upbringing of the child or children as priority. The bond of the entire family unit is actually strengthened.
The second benefit to teaching in a home school environment is that you can customize the information that you present to your children. You have the freedom to teach the material as you wish just as long as it is in align with the educational standards as set forth by the state in which you reside.
If you want to teach poetry by singing it, you can! If you want to teach math lessons by performing a puppet show, you can do this too! If you have certain family beliefs, or religious faith, you can even incorporate these lessons into the classroom at home! Many parents and most all children love this flexibility and luxury!
The third benefit to home schooling is that it takes children away from the traditional brick and mortar schools and puts them in a place where they can learn creatively through real life applications. Most children who are in a traditional classroom are limited to learning from books and workbooks.
Many parents enjoy the home school approach to education because of the fact that they can consistently change the pace, the setting, and the way that they teach. Children can learn in ways that are most appropriate to them and the unique needs that they have.
There are many different means of teaching a child at home. You can use computers and other types of technology, newspapers, various other types of media, and more! All of these tools and resources can prove to be exciting and educational when it comes to stimulating the child’s awareness of their surroundings and important concepts that must be learned.
If the home school approach sounds exciting to you, and you feel that your child will grow from it, you should research the opportunities in your community. You may find that there are a lot more resources and methods of assisting your child than you ever imagined! Home schooling your child may be the best choice you ever make!
